Greetings!

Greetings and salutations my fellow social distancing global citizens. How goes it? Getting pretty boring, right? Only so many times you can re-watch Breaking Bad, or the Sopranos. So might as well catch a movie. There are so many venues now – in addition to the traditional HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, we have SonyHD, MGMHD, and then the web based giants of Netflix and Amazon Prime. Well, we’ve been watching lots of movies – from indies to “B” movies to blockbusters. And thought it would be fun to share my reviews of said movies. Now be forewarned – these are not your typical movie reviews. Here is one definition if you will of how this is supposed to be done:
“The film review is a popular way for critics to assess a film’s overall quality and determine whether or not they think the film is worth recommending. Film reviews differ from scholarly film articles in that they encompass personal and idiosyncratic reactions to and evaluations of a film, as well as objective analyses of the film’s formal techniques and thematic content.”

Film’s overall quality? You will get a good sense of this, same for “worth recommending”. Although, I hope you will find reasons to watch many of these films, even if my overall rating is low. Most importantly, focus on the phrase, “personal and idiosyncratic reactions”. This is the gist of my reviews. Objective analyses of formal techniques and theme? Not interested. But I will point out clichés, plot devices that make no sense, and acting performance, or lack thereof. I try to make these humorous – after all, movies are all about entertainment – and we all need some entertainment and laughter during this global pandemic. And these reviews are off the cuff – no re-watching the movie for nuance – this is the process:
1. It is 4:20 somewhere, celebrate accordingly
2. Open a beer
3. Watch movie, take mental notes
4. Write review

With no further ado, here we go!
